Addressing the last election rally in Madhya Pradesh in Ujjain on Saturday, the BJP’s star campaigner Narendra Modi regaled the audience with sarcasm aimed at the Congress and former MP and chief minister Digvijaya Singh, whom he referred to as bantadhar (the one who caused the state’s downfall).

Addressing a gathering of approximately 15,000 people at Nanakheda stadium, Modi said the Congress is deeply immersed in devotion of one family (Sonia Gandhi) while BJP is immersed in devotion of common people.

“The poor inspires us to work for their emancipation. For Congress, poverty is a joke,” he said. “You know their family, their deeds,” he continued, “and you our (BJP) family, our deeds. We are asking votes on the basis of development that has taken place and they are seeking votes while making future promises.”

“What kind of palm (Congress party symbol) is this which rubs-off `1 in such a manner that it becomes 15 paise by the time it reaches the beneficiary,” Modi said referring to former PM late Rajiv Gandhi’s confession that one rupee which travels from Delhi is reduced to 15 paise when it reaches the man for whom `1 was meant.
