The Indore crime branch has arrested three persons in connection with the sensational video clip, which purportedly showed Depalpur MLA Satyanarayan Patel in a sex act and was widely circulated through mobile file-sharing application Whatsapp.

The trio -- Sandeep Choudhary, Azam Khan and Karamat Khan -- has been arrested under Section 67 of the IT Act for circulating the sex video.

The police, however, said they are nowhere near zeroing in on the main culprit who made the original clipping.

The 16-second video clip went viral in the constituency from Tuesday night, weeks ahead of the assembly election in Madhya Pradesh. Polling in the state has been scheduled for November 25.

ASP (crime) Dilip Soni, who is investigating the matter, said the investigation will take time because people have started deleting the video clip from their phones and to find the next chain in the link, they will have to go through the phone companies.

Soni said the police are also going to check the authenticity of the clip, whether it was morphed or not.

The police started their investigation with the phone of Bharat Samar, who is the complainant in the case. It was found that Samar had received the clipping from Azam Khan of Depalpur.

"Azam had received it from another Depalpur resident, Karamat Khan. But Karamat, who had obtained the clip from Sandeep Choudhary, had deleted it and the link was broken," the ASP said.

“Even though it has been deleted, the clip can be retrieved, but we will have to go through the phone company and this will take time,” he added.
On Wednesday, Patel sobbed uncontrollably during a press briefing after the clip, which purportedly showed him in a compromising position with a woman, went viral. A rich farmer who owns a helicopter, Patel was camping in New Delhi for the past two days to claim the ticket for Depalpur, but rushed to Indore on Tuesday night to clear his name before media.

“The video is morphed,” said 45-year-old Patel, his voice choking with emotion.

“I am saying this in presence of my son and nephew,” he added.

Police officials, meanwhile, fear that with the news out in the media, most of the people who received the clipping and circulated it would be deleting it, making the police’s task increasingly difficult.

A person convicted under Section 67 of the IT Act can get jail term up to five years.
