So much talk about spin since England's arrival can leave your head spinning. However, it's impossible to escape or ignore the spin mania when all one hears and watches is how India have hidden their spinners for practice games and England are preparing to rise to this challenge.

On Wednesday, at a time when one would normally be having a siesta after a sumptuous Gujarati meal, in strode Kevin Pietersen, with spinners Samit Patel and Monty Panesar and the coaching trio of Graham Gooch, Andy Flower and Mushtaq Ahmed.

It was a rest day for England and the team had reportedly gone to a golf club to rej-uvenate. Well, if it was from the fairway that KP dragged them away to have a hit in the nets, he could soon find himself without friends in the team, once again!

Meaning business
Apparently, unmindful of such a situation, the lean and mean batsman planted his back foot deep in the crease, plonked the front foot halfway down the pitch, and went about his business for an hour.

With the chirpy Mushtaq Ahmed cheering every nudge and push with "brilliant Kev" shouts, KP unleashed his booming drives and some monster hits towards long-on.

When he was finally done, everyone looked happy, partly because of having watched him middle the ball effortlessly and because it meant they could go back to what they were doing.

Isn't everyone making a fuss about England's ability to handle spin, including the visitors themselves? After giving it a long thought, Amit Mishra, the only genuine home spinner around, said: "They are weaker against spin compared to our batsmen. So they need practice and good preparation."

Well, let's keep it spinning then.
