It was a very good win for us at Vizag over the Deccan Chargers. It was a much better performance than in our opening game. It was very important that we made some improvements and got our first points in the competition.
The win showed that there is enough depth in our squad to come up with good team performances.
Ravindra Jadeja obviously did well, but it wasn't just him but the others as well. For Jadeja, the performance was important because there was some discussion on why we bought him at a huge price.
Jadeja brings a lot of skills to the team. Obviously, the discussion around him has been because of his performances overseas. But anyone can find it tough in Australia, even a senior player. Jadeja is still very young and is learning his trade. It has been a tough learning curve.
He brings his all-round abilities to the side. He is an athlete as well. We bought him at a high price because we valued his skills and it was also an indication of the dynamic nature of the auction. We were keen to have him in the squad. He adds even more balance to the squad. We are delighted to have him.
Good show against Chargers
It was a good performance overall against the Chargers because it showed our depth. MS Dhoni and Albie Morkel did not make runs, yet we still ended with 190 runs. Faf, Bravo and Badrinath also batted well. The match was a good example of how you cannot have all players coming good on one day, yet how we can be very competitive.
Must-win against Daredevils
The next game for us is very important, a must-win contest against Delhi Daredevils. The competition is extremely close this season, so every game becomes important. The pitch at Vizag suited our spinners and we did well in the contest.
In Delhi, seamers might come into play. We will need to make some adjustments to reflect the surface. But, I think, we have the right team balance to come up with a game plan on any surface that we see in Delhi.
Delhi Daredevils' pace attack will be a good challenge. Morne Morkel, especially, would be a good test for the batsmen. But I am confident we can stand up to the challenge and conditions to come up with a good performance yet again. TCM
