Bollywood celebs to mark India's highest ever presence at Cannes

This year, a galaxy of Indian movie stars and films is to glitter at the prestigious film festival at Cannes.

While Vidya Balan would be joining the nine-member jury alongside the likes of Steven Spielberg, Nicole Kidman and Ang Lee, Amitabh Bachchan’s The Great Gatsby will be the opening film at the festival.

AshBachchan’s daughter-in Law, Aishwarya Rai, who is a red carpet regular at Cannes, will accompany Big B at the festival, which takes place from Mar 15 - 26.

Adding to the list are the filmmakers of Bombay Talkies, which will see a screening at the coveted fest as it celebrates 100 years of Indian cinema. They include Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap. Apart from this, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Irrfan are joining them with their film, Dabba The Lunchbox (2012), directed by debutant Ritesh Batra.

SonamAnd there are more. Saif Ali Khan is joining the contingent as the alcohol brand he endorses is the official partner of the Cannes film festival, and actor Rani Mukerji with designer Sabyasachi Mukherji would attend the festival as guests of the brand. Freida Pinto, Sonam Kapoor and Minissha Lamba will also join the bandwagon.

“It’s not only Hindi movies. There are Bengali Gujarati, Punjabi Marathi and many more. And that’s what we are catering to the world now,” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Southern superstar Rajinikanth too, will be taking his film Kochadaiyaan to the festival.
