Honduras qualified for the 2014 World Cup Tuesday after a 2-2 draw with Jamaica, while Mexico are headed to a playoff after falling 2-1 in Costa Rica.
Honduras got the one point they needed on the final night of qualifying in North and Central America and the Caribbean to finish third in
the six-nation group and reach next year's finals in Brazil.
As the fourth-placed finishers, Mexico will play Oceania's New Zealand next month for a World Cup berth.
And the Mexicans owe a massive debt of thanks to the United States, who scored two injury-time goals in a 3-2 win over Panama that dashed Panama's hopes of seizing the fourth spot from Mexico.
