Real Madrid has presented its latest star signing, midfielder Francisco "Isco" Alarcon, to fans and media at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

The club completed the 21-year-old's transfer from Malaga on Thursday, bolstering its already star-studded squad with one of Europe's most sought-after young players.

Isco said he was delighted to be at the club, and that "there is nothing greater for a footballer than to be at Real Madrid, it's the maximum." Isco has signed a five-year contract and was presented by club president Florentino Perez after passing a medical exam on Wednesday.

Tough measures
Johannesburg: Football players would have to clear blood tests as part of UEFA's new anti-doping detection regime starting next season, in a move that is expected to clear the sport of its unfair practices.

According to sport24, checks would be made in and out of competitions and players may be asked to give urine samples, blood samples or both, with out-of-competition checks only being carried out if players or teams did not inform testers where they would be when required to be tested.

Rooney lays out terms
London: Wayne Rooney has denied that he made any transfer request to Alex Ferguson during the last season, with the striker seeking a formal clarification from the club before he sits out to discuss his plans of staying with the Premier League champions.

According to the Mirror, Rooney's fate will be decided by how he reacts to a meeting over a meal between Moyes and the player’s advisors, where the new manager will set out the vision for his team. Sources close to Moyes are still hoping to find a solution that allows the striker to stay.

Shelvey for Swansea
London: English midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, 21, has joined Swansea City from Liverpool in a transfer costing a reported £5 million ($7.6 million, ¤5.9 million euros), the club said.
