12-year-old Chandigarh boy Aadil Bedi, who will be India's representative at the World Junior Golf Master championship starting on July 22.
12-year-old Chandigarh boy Aadil Bedi has already won more trophies than his age, and is now targetting the World Junior Golf Master championship starting on July 22 (Monday) in Las Vegas, US.
Aadil, India's representative in the event this year, participated in the same tournament in 2010 also but could not do very well. Not losing heart, he has been researching on internet and specially preparing on the 5500m yardage the Americans play on.
He recently finished 9th in the European Championship played in Scotland and has also participated in Sydney, Australia, True vision junior golf tournament Bangkok, Thailand, Callaway World Cup in San Diego, California.
Speaking to HT over the phone from US, Aadil says, "I have come better prepared this time and have brought along an Indian flag which I hope to raise high by putting in good performance. Hopefully I will come back with a medal this time around."
Who is Aadil Bedi?
Golf is not Aadil's sole area of expertise. He is also a regular member of his school’s hockey and football team. But being temperamentally not very aggressive, he prefers golf to the aggression of contact sports.
His mother Hargunjit Kaur, who herself is a national level table tennis player, tells HT that Aadil follows a strict schedule when it comes to practicing his passion.
"My husband used to take him along to play golf when he was very young. He was 5-years-old when he started playing and winning," informs Kaur.
She further says that though initially he had to be pushed to follow a strict schedule, eventually he developed an interest in the game and started living a disciplined life.
He takes a break twice a year and just lazes around watching movies and eating his favourite Dominos pizzas. Though his family is not very religious, just before leaving for the US, he bought a Kada to seek the Guru's blessings.
The young golfer, who holds American golfer Jack Niklaus as his idol, is presently in Las vegas with his father and Grandfather, ready to do the country proud.
