Chance for Indian riders to prove mettle

A 45-member strong Indian contingent is set to carve out a niche in the 33rd senior and 20th junior Hero Asian Cycling Championship that gets underway here in the Capital from Thursday. The India team coach, Amar Singh, sounded optimistic about making an impact in the continental event,
which assumes importance, as valuable points will be awarded to the cyclists. "The preparations have gone well. It's time to deliver now," he said.

Singh is banking on the quartet of Bikram Singh, Amarjit Singh, C Rajesh and Amrit Singh. The Indian team had given a good account of itself by qualifying for the World Championships. It now wants to prove its mettle on the home ground.

Talking about the women's side, Deborah and Mohita Mohan are the best bets to win medals. The focus, however, will be on teenager Deborah, a tsunami survivor.
