The first day of the 14th Raid De Himalaya saw a high profile retirement and a couple of incidents where intervention by the safety services prevented any serious injuries. Sunny Sidhu had to retire after mechanical problems hit his Mahindra XUV 500. Simranjit Singh and his
navigator Karan Narang from Gurgaon and Team Army's Lt Col RS Rai and Lt Col Dahiya were the participants.

Hindustan Times' Sukhwant Basra retired from the Xtreme Two-Wheeler category due to electrical problems with his KTM.

The four-wheel category is now expected to be a three-way fight between Mahindra's Lohitt Urs, Ammitrajit Ghosh and Maruti's Suresh Rana.
