If you saw Caroline Hedwall on the opening day of the Hero Women's Indian Open, you would have found her annoyed. After all, the defending champion did shoot four-over in the first round of the $300,000 event.

"The greens were very grainy," the disappointed 23-year-old had said.

Annoyed with her putting, the Swede decided to "do something about it". On Saturday, Hedwall recorded a career-best round of 10-under par and set a women's course record at the DLF Golf and Country Club.

She shattered the record set by Laura Davies (65) in the opening round of the 2010 edition. Opening with a 76, the youngster scored 14 shots better with a 62 to end at six-under, one shot behind joint leaders Thai Pornanong Phatlum (72, 65) and Australian Bree Arthur (70, 67).

"It was all in the putting. After missing many birdie opportunities yesterday, I was more relaxed and gave myself better chances," she said.

"I knew if I putted strongly, I could turn it around. Today, I had five or six birdies which I could tap-in, which really helped."

SSP champion
Kolkata: SSP Chowrasia bounced back with a four-under 68 to win the McLeod Russel Tour Championship in front of his home crowd on Saturday.

Overnight leader Shamim Khan finished one stroke behind, which was enough to seal the 2012 PGTI Order of Merit title.

Chowrasia (72, 70, 69, 68), who was overnight tied fifth, overcame a four-shot deficit on the final day to claim his 13th professional win, and first at home.

"It's great to win on my home course for the first time and that too coming from behind. I focussed on my putting today and it paid off," said Chowrasia, who bagged a winner's cheque of `19,81,250.
