Seventeen GMs for Mayor's Cup

Grandmasters from 12 countries will vie for top honours in the fifth Mayor's Cup International Chess Tournament, starting here on June 7. Seventeen Grandmasters, 35 International Masters and Women Grandmasters have confirmed their participation in the event, which carries a prize money of Rs.15.25 lakh, with a first prize of Rs. 3.01 lakh.
GM Alexei Aleksandrov of Belarus (ELO 2606) will be the top seed while GM B Adhiban (ELO 2555) will be the top seed from India.

ITBP climbers ski down Everest
New Delhi: Climbers from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) created history by skiing down Mt Everest from the Chinese side, making them the maiden Indian squad to achieve the feat. Eight climbers from the expedition team, who reached the summit on May 19 by taking the tough northern route in Tibet, arrived here to a rousing reception.

Gurinder to lead in  Olympic Qualifier
Bangalore: Gurinder Singh will lead a 12-member India men's volleyball team in the Olympic Qualification tournament to be held in Berlin from June 8-10. Besides India, Cuba, the Czech Republic and hosts Germany will be participating. Earlier, India participated in the China Men's Volleyball Challenge in China, from May 25-27, and won the silver.

Harmeet, Rashid among joint leaders
