While Sindhu prevailed over Ngan Yi Cheung of Hong Kong 11-21, 21-18, 21-10; Gurusaidutt beat Riichi Takeshita 21-19, 21-16.
Anand finishes third
St. Petersburg: World champion Viswanathan Anand played out a draw with Boris Gelfand of Israel in the ninth and final round to finish third in the Alekhine memorial chess tournament here. He finished sole third with five points in all.
Somdev in the race
New Delhi: The All India Tennis Association has recommended Somdev Devvarman’s name for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award for the year 2013. The bosy has also recommended Vijay Amritraj for the Dhyan Chand Award, Zeeshan Ali and Rushmi Chakravarthi for the Arjuna Award and Nandan Bal for the Dronacharya Award.

Tianjin (China): SSP Chowrasia turned in a flawless back-nine to open with a two-under 70 that placed him tied 11th at the end of the first round at the Volvo China Open on the European Tour on Thursday.
