Sushma Singh and Shreyasi Singh bagged gold in women’s sports pistol and double trap, respectively, while Sushil Ghaley clinched the yellow metal in men’s rifle prone at the National Championship Monday.
Uttarakhand’s Sushma won the title after she shot 580+200.5. Rahi Sarnobat of
Maharashtra bagged the silver (583+196.4). The bronze went to Annuraj Singh (573 + 201.6). Shreyasi (Bihar) shot 88, and there was a tie for the second place between Seema Tomar and Varsha Tomar after both scored 83, but the former prevailed in the tie-shoot.
Army man Ghaley shot 593+102.4 for the title, followed by Rakesh Manpat (Kar - 591+103.2) and Sanjeev Rajput (Navy 588+104). In men’s double trap, RVS Rathore (Army) was leading with 96 after two rounds.
The Wrestling Federation of India has announced the commencement of the Indian Wrestling League from Nov 6, 2013 with six franchisee-owned teams on home-away basis leading to 30 league games followed by the semifinals and final. GS Mander, chairman IWL, said, “The names of the franchise owners and financial partnershall be announced shortly.”
Korobov in sole lead
Grandmaster Anton Korobov of Ukraine shot into sole lead, defeating top seed Radoslav Wojtaszek of Poland in the fourth round of the AICF-AAI Chess Cup here. Korobov took his tally to three points out of a possible four and the Ukrainian now enjoys a full-point lead over Wojtaszek and Evgeny Alekseev of Russia and Parimarjan Negi and Abhijeet Gupta of India, who all have two points each.
Delhi U-16 take points
Sumit Mathur’s 6/23 and 173 by captain Himmat Singh helped Delhi (353/9) get 3 points against Haryana (131) via first innings lead in Vijay Merchant U-16 tournament. In DDCA league, U-25 paceman Javed Khan’s 6/30 helped Rajdhani Club thump Lala Ram Charan by 15 runs. In other games, Naveen Muadka’s 77 powered Young Delhi to a win while Mohan Meakins and Rani Bagh too won their matches.
