Fans would have to wait till mid-September to see Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu in action once the inaugural Indian Badminton League ends.
According to sources, neither of the top shuttlers would be able to recuperate in time for the China Masters Super Series, beginning September 10 in Guangzhou.
Thus, they will straight away start their international campaign in the Japan Open Super Series, starting September 17 at Tokyo.
According to TPS Puri, the Badminton Association of India vice president, no entries had been sent for the tournament in a conscious decision.
“The international calendar is packed with several tournaments and our shuttlers need time to rest,” he had earlier stated.
Ajay Jayaram and Anand Pawar will be the only Indians in action in China. “The players who are participating in China are going in their own capacity,” Puri added.
After a hectic IBL schedule, travelling across six cities in 18 days, the shuttlers would be seen resting and then getting back to training keeping Tokyo in mind.
