The United States lead Europe 8-4 after the morning foursomes on the second day of the 39th Ryder Cup at the Medinah Country Club in Chicago on Friday.

Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson beat Lee Westwood and Luke Donald 7 and 6 on Saturday, matching the Ryder Cup record for the most lopsided finish in an 18-hole team match.

It had happened twice before, most recently in 1991, both times in foursomes.

Bradley improved his win-loss record to 3-0, the best start in the Ryder Cup for a US rookie since the guy he was playing with did it in 1995. And it handed Donald his second straight loss in foursomes after going unbeaten his first six times out.

The result made it 6-3 in favour of the US.

Europe reduced the deficit by one, when Justin Rose and Ian Poulter defeated Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson one up to give the defending champions a much-needed point.

But the difference was restored by Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson of the US, who beat Sergio Garcia and Nicolas Colsaerts 2 and 1, and enhanced by Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker, who defeated Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell 1-up.
