Former two-time Asian champion Yasin Merchant overwhelmed Kamal Chawla of Railways 6-2 to clinch the title in the Matunga Gymkhana-BSAM-Pidilite 6-Red All India Open Snooker tournament in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The Mumbai-based Merchant romped home 34-8, 1-50, 43-15, 40-27, 6-43, 38-5, 65-0, 33-13 in the best-of-11 frames final.

Merchant was in full flow in the title clash. Playing superbly, he fired an unfinished break of 65 in the seventh frame and followed it up in the next frame by potting a long blue that was nestled between the cushion and the black to seal the title win.

With the unfinished 65, Merchant equaled the highest break in the competition that was constructed by Mahesh Jagdale and the two shared the prize of Rs. 5000.

"This is the best I have played in the tournament after enduring indifferent form right through," said a delighted Merchant.

"Kamal is suited for this format but he didn't get going. I dared to go for my shots and that proved decisive," he said.

Merchant earned Rs. 30,000 for his effort, while Chawla received Rs. 18,000. Former world amateur billiards champion Michael Ferreira distributed the prizes.
