Rohan Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin toppled third seeded pair of Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares to breeze into the men's doubles quarter-finals of the Wimbledon championships on Monday.
The 14th seed Indo-French pair shocked the third seed Austrian-Brazilian combination 6-4 4-6 6-7 (5) 6-2 in two hours and 17 minutes. They will now fight it out with sixth seeds Robert Lindstedt of Sweden and Daniel Nestor of Canada for a place in the semifinals.
Bopanna also moved up in the mixed doubles event with partner Jie Zheng. The seventh-seeded Indo-Chinese pair beat the Colombian-Croatian duo Robert Farah and Darija Jurak 7-6 (5), 7-5.
It was also a good day at office for Mahesh Bhupathi and partner Julian Knowle. The eighth seeded Indo-Austrian pair defeated Canadians Jesse Levine and Vasek Pospisil 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. They will now fight it out against the winner of the match between Bob and Mike Bryan and 16th seeds Treat Huey of Philippines and British Dominic Inglot.
However, it was the end of the road for Sania Mirza in the women’s doubles. Partnering Liezel Huber, the sixth seeds, they went down to Shuko Aoyama of Japan and Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa 6-2, 3-6, 2-6.
