Somdev enters top 100 again

Somdev Devvarman returned to the top-100 after a gap of one year and nine months as he jumped three places to 98 in the latest ATP singles rankings, issued on Monday. He celebrated by qualifying for the main draw of the ATP Malaysian Open with a 7-5 7-5 victory over Jean-Julien Rojer in Kuala Lumpur.

Somdev had achieved a career-best rank of 62 in 2011 but struggled after that as a shoulder injury halted his progress.

Yuki Bhambri zoomed up to 287 from 477 due to a runner-up finish in a Taiwan Challenger.

In doubles, Leander Paes (5), Rohan Bopanna (7) and Mahesh Bhupathi’s rank (10) remained unchanged.

Davis Cup in Indore
New Delhi: India will meet Chinese Taipei in their next Davis Cup tie in Indore as Madhya Pradesh Tennis Association has been given the hosting rights for the first time by AITA. The Asia/Oceania Group I tie will be held from January 31 to February 2 , 2014 on the hard courts.

Ramandeep stars

Grover draws

Kashyap triumphs
New Delhi: Parupalli Kashyap notched up an easy win in the team championships, on the opening day of the 35th PSPB Inter Unit badminton meet at Siri Fort. After initial rounds, the semifinals in the men’s team championships saw ONGC beat BPCL 3-0. Playing for IOCL, Kashyap led his team as they beat HPCL 3-0.

Sharma nominated
NEW DELHI: Delhi-based Ashok Sharma has been nominated as commissioner for the third FIBA Asia under-16 men basketball tournament beginning from September 25 at Tehran, Iran. Sharma, an international official, was selected by FIBA Asia for the event.
