A day after junior shotgun coach Aarul Hassan Choudhury was questioned by the Custom department at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for bringing more than the permissible limit of cartridges in his baggage, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) ordered an inquiry into the incident.
A federation statement said: “Raninder Singh, president of the NRAI, has taken a very serious view of this and ordered an enquiry into this matter. He has directed that stringent action be taken against all officials or shooters, if found guilty.”
Since the president and other top NRAI officials are away in Glasgow, it isn’t certain who will conduct the inquiry and when the report will be submitted.
The NRAI confirmed that Choudhury was with the junior shotgun team which had gone to compete in an international event in Finland.
Some of the team members had returned earlier, while Choudhury along with a couple of team members returned on Tuesday.
The ammunition was confiscated by the Customs department, but the coach was let off later pending an inquiry.
