3 held for betting on India-Aus cricket match

Three persons were held in Andhra Pradesh's east Godavari district when they were allegedly betting on the India-Australia one-day series, police said on Monday.

12 cell phones and Rs. 6,000 cash was seized from their possession, they said.

Acting on a tip off, police raided a house at Tilak road here last night and caught the trio while they were laying bets on the ongoing India-Australia cricket matches.

"We conducted raids at a house in the city where three persons were betting on the ongoing India-Australia one day series. In this connection, we arrested three persons and seized Rs. 6,000 cash and 12 cell phones from their possession," a police official said.

The arrested persons belong to Anaparthy in the district.

A case has been registered in this regard, police said, adding that an inquiry is on in the matter.
