With the Supreme Court fixing October 7 as the next date of hearing, Srinivasan’s bid to resume duty as BCCI president has been stalled by a week at least.

It means the world’s richest cricket board, functioning without an elected president since June, will continue to be headless. However, BCCI officials believe it will not affect the Board’s functioning. “Earlier, the resignation of the secretary and treasurer had complicated matters. But now we have an elected secretary, joint secretary and treasurer who will ensure the Board’s day-to-day functioning remains unaffected,” said an insider.

“While the secretary and joint secretary have executive powers, the treasurer is the signing authority in financial matters. The Board’s daily chores include responsibilities which could be carried out by these officials.”

The BCCI source, however, said the president’s presence would be required in case important meetings like AGM, SGM or working committee have to be convened.

“A president needs to sign minutes of these meetings but I don’t think such meetings are proposed in the near future,” he said.

All the newly-elected office bearers have assumed office after the AGM on Sunday. However, Srinivasan, who was asked not to take charge by the Supreme Court, was relying on Monday’s proceedings to take charge.
