After third seed Chandril Sood of Uttar Pradesh was ousted by unseeded Elwin Anthony of Tamil Nadu on the opening day of the national grasscourt tennis tournament, on the second day on Tuesday the men's top seed bit the dust.

Siddharth Rawat of Uttar Pradesh was shown the door by
another unseeded player from Tamil Nadu, Fariz Mohammad, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in 115 minutes. Local favourite Rupesh Roy got the better of fourth seed Shahbaz Khan of Maharashtra 6-4, 6-0.

Burman victorious
In the women's draw too, second seed Shweta Rana was ousted by local girl Shivika Burman 6-3, 7-6(5). Burman was coming back from a nine-month long injury lay-off but that her shoulder was doing just fine was proved by her strong serve and volley game.

In another match Rushmi Chakravorthi thrashed Manya Nagpal 6-2, 6-2. Local girls Treta Bhattacharya and Amrita Mukherjee lost their respective matches in contrasting styles.

While Treta lost after a tough battle to doubles partner Natasha Palha 6-4, 4-6, 2-6; Amrita was meekly shown the door by Bhuvana Kalva of Andhra Pradesh 2-6, 0-6.
