The all-Bengal final didn’t happen but Sourav Sukul ensured the state would have one berth in the summit round of the men’s singles competition of the national grasscourt tennis championships that end at the Calcutta South Club on Saturday. It hasn’t happened since Syed Fazaluddin won the
tournament here in 2000.

Seeded eight, Sukul, 29, made short work of Maharashtra’s Ronak Manuja winning the semi-final 6-3, 6-4. He will meet Ramkumar Ramanathan in the final, who beat Bengal’s Rupesh Roy 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-1. The women’s final will see top seed Ankita Raina up against fifth-seed Natasha Palha of Goa.

Silverglades in final
Greater Noida: Silverglades Delhi and DLF Gurgaon set up the title clash of the Louis Philippe Cup after scoring identical 2-1 wins over Navratna Ahmedabad and Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida respectively.
