Switzerland Davis Cup captain Severin Luethi says Roger Federer might play in the competition again, although the 17-time Grand Slam champion won't represent his country before the US Open in September.
Luethi tells The Associated Press that Federer "is for sure not finished with Davis Cup."
Switzerland has never won the team event and the 31-year-old Federer is skipping a first round series at home against defending champion Czech Republic this week.
By not making his Davis Cup plans clear in recent months, the Swiss star has been criticized at home.
Luethi says Federer opted last October to schedule more rest periods and time with his family this season.
The Swiss captain says Federer "didn't take a final decision to say, 'I'm not ever playing Davis Cup again.'"
