Nagal makes semis in Asian Championships

Sumit Nagal made the semifinals of the Asian closed junior tennis championships, underway at the DLTA Complex, on Thursday. The fifth-seeded 15-year-old overcame the challenge posed by second-seeded Young Seok-Kim of Korea. Though the world No. 36 won the first set and had a better overall game, Nagal refused to give up. He hung on and finally triumphed 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to set up a last-four stage date with Korea's Deck Hee Lee.

Sindhu advances 
Taipei: Shuttler PV Sindhu beat former World No. 1 Shixian Wang of China at the Badminton Asia Championships here on Thursday, to  progress  to the women's singles quarter-finals.

Paes-Melzer in QF
Monte Carlo: Leander Paes and his Austrian partner Jurgen Melzer outplayed Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna to enter the quarterfinals of the men's doubles event of the Monte Carlo Masters. The Indo-Austrian pair won 6-2, 6-3 in little less than an hour.
