The All India Football Federation on Sunday suspended Mahesh Gawli and Sameer Naik for missing a national camp on direction of their I-League club Dempo, whose fate will be decided by a disciplinary committee before the start of the Federation Cup next month.

Dempo had stopped Gawli and Naik from joining the senior national camp in Goa earlier this month, claiming they were recuperating from their respective knee and hamstring injuries.

"We have decided that to refer this matter to the disciplinary committee of the federation for action. Till the committee meets and takes a decision, the duo will not be allowed to play for Dempo. They cannot even play the local league.

"We will definitely come out with a decision before the start of Federation Cup. For the time being, the matter has been referred to disciplinary committee who has the powers to either suspend the club or fine the club," AIFF general secretary Alberto Colaco said after the meeting.

In their emergency committee meeting, the AIFF also appointed Sunando Dhar, General Manager (sales and marketing) of Leisure Sports management Company, as the CEO of I-League.

"He (Dhar) will take over the the charge from January. As for (AIFF) general secretary's post, no formal decision has been taken. We will be meeting in a few days in Delhi on this regard," AIFF President Praful Patel said.
