A young AIFF XI stopped one step short of exacting victory from JCT in their 10th round I-League match here on Wednesday.
Against Sukhwinder Singh's JCT, Desmond Bulpin's boys controlled play, making regular incursions into JCT's final third but a goal remained elusive.
AIFF XI's midfield shone, with Jewel Raja and Jibon Singh doing admirably to impede JCT's slick short-pass play. The duo, in addition to Shilton D'Silva and Subodh Kumar, fed telling passes to forwards Jeje Lalpeklua and Malsawm Fela.
Fela almost put the hosts one-up in the 16th minute when a Subodh pass found him on the edge of the box but his shot went wide. JCT striker Keke Ibrahim came close to slotting one in the 20th minute when a sublime turn past Vishal allowed him space to shoot but saw his shot saved.
AIFF XI came close to scoring again in the 53rd minute from a long ball that was chested down by Subodh for Fela's strike which skimmed the horizontal.
They had their best chance in the 59th minute when Jeje headed Subodh's long ball into the box which was tipped away by Naveen.
The ball landed at Fela's foot but the striker failed to tap it into the open net ultimately ensuring a third draw in as many matches.
