Ambika Pande won the Canadian U- 18 juniors World Ranking Tournament in Vancouver on Sunday. She beat Canada's Gloria Liang 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) in the final. Ambika trains at DLTA Complex here and is coached by Vishaal Uppal, the former Davis Cup player.

Japan promoted in Fed Cup
Kob: Japan earned promotion to World Group II in the Fed Cup after ace Ayumi Morita coasted to victory for an insurmountable 3-0 lead over Argentina in a play-off tie on Sunday. After the hosts took a 2-0 lead on Saturday, the 23-year-old Morita whipped Aranza Salut, who replaced the out-of-form Maria Irigoyen, 6-2, 6-1 in the best-of-five contest.

Tokyo's Olympic bid ‘needs lobbying’
Tokyo has launched another bid for the Olympics, but pundits at home fear it could go the same way as the unsuccessful tilt at the 2016 Games because of a lack of lobbying power. The Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) announced Tokyo's bid for the 2020 Games on Saturday. “The JOC's diplomatic power is in question,” the Nikkei newspaper said Sunday as it analysed the chances of Tokyo's new bid, officially touted as a 'symbol' of Japan's recovery from March's earthquake-tsunami disaster.
