Mahesh Bhupathi and Michael Llodra advanced to the quarter-finals of the ATP Dubai Tennis championships with a straight-sets win over Serbian pair of Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki, in Dubai.

The unseeded Indo-French team defeated the Serbian rivals 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round of the $1,785,500 hard court event.

They next face Polish fourth seeded pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.

Rohan Bopanna and his American partner Rajeev Ram had also reached the quarter-finals after shocking second seeds Jean-Julien Roger and Aisam-ul Haq Qureshi in their opening round.

Bopanna and Ram are now up against Victor Hanescu of Romania and Czech Lukas Rosol. If Bhupathi and Bopanna win their next matches with their respective partners, they will clash in the semifinals and it will ensure that at least one Indian will compete for the title in the summit clash.

Nadal eases into Acapulco last eight
Acapulco: Rafael Nadal eased into the quarter-finals of the Mexican Open on Wednesday, continuing his comeback from the knee injury that sidelined the 11-time Grand Slam champion for seven months.

Nadal, playing in his third tournament in four weeks after his lengthy layoff, needed one hour and 16 minutes to get past Argentine qualifier Martin Alund 6-0, 6-4.

The relatively low-key clay court tournaments in Latin America were expected to serve as Nadal's preparation for prestigious Masters Series events on US hard courts at Indian Wells, California, and Miami.

Nadal has denied a media report that he has already decided to skip Indian Wells.

'Lady Gaga' moves up in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur: Wildcard entrant Bethanie Mattek-Sands stormed into the quarter-finals of the rain-delayed BMW Malaysian Open on Thursday when she crushed Duan Ying-Ying of China 6-1, 6-4.

The bubbly blonde, who is known as the Lady Gaga of tennis after attending the 2011 pre-Wimbledon party in a dress made of tennis balls created by the popstar's designer Alex Noble, hardly broke a sweat as she brushed aside her opponent.

The colourful American was one of five players to secure quarter-final berths so far.

The others who have qualified are Japanese fourth seed Ayumi Morita, Karolina Pliskova, Ashleigh Barty and Luksika Kumkhum.
