Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi advanced to the men’s doubles quarterfinals with their respective partners.
While Bhupathi and his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles defeated Nicolas Lapentti and Tommy Robredo 6-3, 6-4, Paes and his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy, seeded fourth, beat locals Paul Hanley and Jordan Kerr 6-2, 7-5.
Bhupathi-Knowles pair next faces the Spanish pair of Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco. Paes and Dlouhy will meet Italians Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi.
Among the juniors, Kaza Vinayak Sharma joined top seed Yuki Bhambri in the boys singles second round with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sweden’s Patrik Brydolf. But, it was curtains for Sudarwa Sitaram, who lost 3-6, 4-6 to Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France in the opener.
In the girls singles, Kyra Shroff suffered a 0-6, 3-6 mauling at the hands of Monika Tumova of Czech Republic.
The combination of Vinayak Sharma and Roanak Manuja fell in the first round of boys doubles after losing 6-7 (1), 0-6.
In girls doubles first round, the Indian pair of Tanvi Shah and Rashmi Teltumbde lost 4-6, 6-7 (5) to Ester Goldfeld the US and Briton Hannah James.
Shroff and her Canadian partner Eugenie Bouchard though advanced to second round after their opponents conceded their first round match. The Indo-Canadian pair had won the first set 6-1 when their opponents called it quits.
