Federation Cup Champions East Bengal will take on Goa's Churchill Brothers in the opening tie of the I-League football championship, to get underway from October 22 at the salt lake stadium in Kolkata.
The I-league CEO Sunando Dhar, who was in Goa for the Fifa Futoro III administration and management instruction refresher course, said Churchill Brother/East Bengal will be the official opening match of the I-League.
“We have not yet decided on the inaugural programme but we are planning a different start from what we have seen before'', he said.
On the opening day, there will be three matches at Kolkata, Pune and Bangalore.
The All India Football Federation( AIFF) have convened a meeting between I-League clubs representatives, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officials on August 18.
