Nikolay Davydenko has continued his hot form to advance to the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 win over Illya Marchenko of Ukraine. Davydenko, who played the first match Thursday at Rod Laver Arena, beat both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on his way to two titles in the last two months, including the Qatar Open this month where he beat Nadal in the final.
He won five titles last year and for the second time in his career, having also achieved the feat in 2006.
But the 28-year-old Russian has never reached the final of a Grand Slam tournament. The closest he's come at the Australian Open is the fourth round in 2008, although he did not play here last year due to a left heel injury, breaking a streak of 51 straight Grand Slam tournaments back to the 2001 US Open.
