Manchester United

Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic scored as Manchester United strengthened their grip on top spot in the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old
Trafford on Sunday.

But the latest meeting between England's two most successful clubs saw Liverpool ensured a nervous finish for United when substitute Daniel Sturridge pulled a goal back with just over half an hour left.

Victory saw United move 10 points in front of second placed Manchester City ahead of the champions match away to Arsenal later on Sunday.

Van Persie scored in a dominant first half for United with Vidic, deflecting in a header from Patrice Evra, adding a second goal in the 54th minute.
But three minutes later, Sturridge pulled a goal back for the visitors, who remained in eighth place but now trail United by the huge margin of 24 points.

Real pressure
Madrid: Jose Mourinho was under more pressure on Saturday when misfiring Real Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw at relegation-threatened Osasuna, a result which left the champions 15 points behind leaders Barcelona, who have a game on Sunday. Madrid, devoid of any creativity, missed the suspended Cristiano Ronaldo, who had scored five of his side's eight goals in the last two games, and their desperate state was highlighted when substitute Kaka was sent-off in the second half.
Real Madrid are on 37 points in third place, four behind Atletico Madrid. "I liked my team's attitude, Raul Albiol and Fabio Coentrao have come in and played well and the others have done a job. It's not easy to create here, we did enough to score but we didn't make many chances," said Mourinho.
