Returning Swiss star Martina Hingis had her US Open comeback cut short on Friday with first-round losses in women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Former world number one Hingis, who won five Grand Slam singles titles before retiring in 2007, and Slovakian partner Daniela Hantuchova were beaten by Italian top seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci 6-3, 7-5 in women's doubles.

And in a later night match, Sweden's Robert Lindstedt and Taiwan's Chan Yung-Jan beat mixed doubles wildcard entrants Hingis and India's Mahesh Bhupathi 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (7/5).
