Dutch-line: Getting it right on big stage

Highlight Story

We have to applaud Ghana's overtime effort in eliminating USA and coach Rajevak's work. Africa is behind Ghana as they face Uruguay. Argentina and Germany cruised against Mexico and England and now face-off in the quarters. Holland beat Slovakia 2-1 to face Brazil.

I like the way coach Van Marwijk has prepared the Dutch team in the early rounds. He wisely rested Arjen Robben and brought him against Cameroon and Slovakia.

Holland have a solid defence with Van der Wiel, Heitinga, Mathijsen and Van Bronckhorst. The midfielders are Bommel and De Jong. Van Persie is the lone striker with Kuyt, Sneijder and Robben feeding him.

Slovak coach Weiss played a defensive formation, which gave Robben the first goal. Holland used their defence to shut down Vittek and launch counter-attacks to let Kuyt feed Sneijder for the second goal. Van Marwijk's mission is accomplished before they face Brazil.

The Brazilians will have Kaka back with Luis Fabiano and Robinho upfront. Their only weakness is a lack of qualified substitutes to their starting 11. Japan played spectacularly to defeat Denmark. Coach Okada had his revenge by bringing Japan further than expected.
