Former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero will replace injured David Ferrer in Spain's squad for this week's Davis Cup World Group quarter-final against Germany, the Spanish tennis federation said on Monday.

Ferrer had to withdraw from the Spanish squad on Sunday with a hamstring injury.

Champions Spain are already without world number two Rafael Nadal, who has tendinitis in his knees.

Ferrero will join teammates Tommy Robredo, Fernando Verdasco, Feliciano Lopez and Nicolas Almagro in their July 1-12 quarter-final tie on clay against Germany in Marbella in southern Spain.

He has represented Spain in three Davis Cup finals, lifting the trophy in 2000 and 2004.
