Due to cash crunch, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Monday asked Zee Sports, its marketing and broadcasting partners, to clear dues amounting to Rs 10 crore.
The payment, pending since April, has been a cause for concern for the AIFF, whose annual budget is close to Rs 23 crore, and whose 10-year contract with Zee Sports runs till 2014.
“They (Zee Sports) have been told to clear the dues immediately. They have assured us that it will be done soon,” a top AIFF official said on condition of anonymity.
The reminder notwithstanding, Zee has agreed to telecast all the Federation Cup matches in Guwahati and Silchar. The tournament kicks off with defending champions Mohun Bagan taking on a qualifier on December 21. The semifinals will be played on December on 30 and 31, with the final scheduled for Jan 3.
