Japan move up in rankings

sports Updated: Feb 02, 2011 23:52 IST

New Asian champion Japan leaped into the top 20 on Wednesday. African champion Egypt plummeted from the top 10, down to 33 because the value of its January 2010 title dropped more than one year on.

Spain heads an unchanged top nine, followed by the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil and Argentina. Greece rose one place to No. 10.

World Cup quarterfinalist Ghana now leads African teams, and climbed one to 15. Japan rose 12 spots to 17 after the Asian Cup win. United States stayed at 18 to lead CONCACAF teams. Oceania's best, New Zealand, was at 64. ap
