NEW DELHI: Top Indian judoka Avtar Singh has qualified for the Rio Olympic Games in the under 90kg category, the national federation said on Saturday. As per the list released by the International Judo Federation, Avtar has qualified for the Rio Olympic under the continental quota. Avtar, who hails from Gurdaspur in Punjab, is presently working with the Punjab Armed Police.
INDIA WOMEN LOSE
DARWIN: The Indian women’s team returned empty-handed from the four-nation invitational tournament here after losing 1-2 to Japan in the bronze medal play-off match on Saturday.
Vandan Katariya scored the first goal in the 37th minute following a long cross field drive from Deepika. Japan equalised soon through Motomi Kawamura and then took the lead in the 42nd minute through Minami Shimizu.
