Sesikhohau Tuboi produced a smart deflection 15 minutes from the end as Lajong FC subdued Indian Air Force 2-1 to start their campaign well in the 124th Durand Cup football tournament on Tuesday.
The airforce team made a comeback in the absorbing Group B quarterfinal league encounter after Lajong took the lead in the 33rd minute when P. Lalhlimthara converted the rebound after a shot came off the post. IAF worked hard and found the equaliser in the 63rd minute through a powerful grounder by Kiran Konwar.
Earlier, holders United FC were more convincing in the opening Group A quarterfinal league match, defeating former champions Border Security Force (BSF) 2-0, scoring at either end of the match.
Josimar de Silva Martins put United ahead in the fourth minute and Yusuf Yakubu converted a n 82nd minute penalty as United warmed up for their tough next clash against freshly crowned Federation Cup champions Salgaocar on October 9.
The match was stopped for 20 minutes as the flood lights went off.
