Odafa, Barreto fire to bail out Bagan
Okolie Odafa continued to be in rich vein of form but it was old horse Jose Barreto who bailed out Mohun Bagan just when it seemed they could lose two points after a resolute comeback from United Kerala in their I-League match here on Friday.
Okolie Odafa continued to be in rich vein of form but it was old horse Jose Barreto who bailed out Mohun Bagan just when it seemed they could lose two points after a resolute comeback from United Kerala in their I-League match here on Friday.
But both Odafa and Barreto pulled out after scoring and Mohun Bagan had to play the last ten minutes with ten men. Later, coach Prasanta Banerjee said Barreto had pulled his calf muscle and Odafa injured his groin, making them doubtful for their next match away at Dempo on Wednesday. Odafa has four goals from two matches.
In other matches, Salgaocar finally got a win, beating Pailan Arrows 4-0 in Margao. The defending champions were helped by a penalty, an own goal and the send-off of Arrows defender Avinabo Bag in the 22nd minute. Bag was issued the marching orders after he handled the ball on the goalline conceding a penalty that Edeh Chidi converted with ease.
Chidi had himself scored the first goal a little earlier, and after being two goals and a player down, it was curtains for the Arrows. In Imphal, Shillong Lajong FC defeated HAL 1-0.
