Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic entered the men’s doubles semi-finals while Sania Mirza and her Romanian partner Horia Tecau bowed out in the mixed doubles pre-quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
Fifth seeded Paes and Stepanek recorded an upset 3-6, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over third seeded Daniel Nestor of Canada and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia.
In the semifinals, Paes and Stepanek will take on the unseeded pair of Vasek Pospisil of Canada and Jack Sock of United States, who stunned the second seeded Alexander Peya of Austria and Bruno Soares of Brazil 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Sania and Horia, seeded sixth, who had outplayed Mate Pavic and Bojana Jovanovski 6-3, 6-3 in a rain-interrupted second-round match, failed to extend their stay.
The Indo-Romanian pairing were upset by the 10th seeded combination of Jamie Murray and Casey Dellacqua 5-7, 3-6.
It was also curtains for Rohan Bopanna and his Czech partner Andrea Hlavackova as they lost their second round mixed doubles match. Seventh seeded Bopanna and Hlavackova conceded advantage of having won the opening set to eventually lose 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 against Russia’s Mikhail Elgin and Anastasia Rodionova of Australia.
