Leander Paes kept the Indian hopes alive till the final Sunday as he and Russian partner Elena Vesnina entered the final of mixed doubles.
Paes-Vesnina upset top seeds Bob Bryan and Liezel Huber 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 in a closely-contested semifinal on Saturday in an hour and 51 minutes.
Paes and Vesnina next take on second seeds Mike Bryan and Lisa Raymond, who defeated Nenad Zimonjic and Katerina Srebotnik 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the day. The Indo-Russian pair had entered the Australian Open finals in January.
Paes, who had a tough run up to the tournament with the team selection drama for the London Olympics taking away the focus, is now in line for his 14th Grand Slam title.
He had completed a career Slam in men's doubles at the Australian Open as he and Radek Stepanek swept past the Bryan brothers in the final.
