Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will fly to Zurich if his country wins the right to host the 2018 World Cup, his spokesman was quoted as saying on Thursday.

"The prime minister is prepared to fly to Zurich if the Russian Federation wins the right to host the World Cup," the RIA Novosti quoted Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.

Putin, seen here as the country's main selling card on the global arena, said on Wednesday he would stay away from Thursday's crunch vote in the Swiss city to avoid putting pressure on the 22-member FIFA executive committee.
