It was an enthralling evening on Monday as Mumbai Garuda beat Bengaluru Yodhas 5-2 in the first edition of the Pro Wrestling League.

One of the interesting bouts was between Ritu Phogat and Alyssa Lampe, in which the former emerged victorious. The audience cheered for Phogat as her opponent struggled to get a hold on her. Amid the beat of drums, Phogat took time to settle down. She trailed 5-6 before going on to win 9-6.

The match between Bajrang Punia of the Yodhas and Amit Dhankar was an engrossing one as there was a tie till the second round. The cheering audience made it clear it was Amit who was their favourite, however a composed Bajrang prevailed 6-3.

By virtue of Monday’s win, Mumbai Garuda continue to lead the table.

In the women’s 53kg category, Mumbai’s Odunayo Adekuoroye stunned the audience by winning against Lalita Sherawat in a minute and 21 seconds. She then danced to the tunes of bhangra to celebrate her win.

“It’s a great win for the team. The crowd has been supportive and we are happy to be in India. Our team is strong and we look forward to more action in the matches to come,” said Mumbai’s Adeline Gray.
