Queen's final postponed due to rain

Highlight Story

Andy Murray's clash with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Queen's Club final has been postponed until Monday after heavy rain washed out play in west London on Sunday.

Tournament organisers had brought forward the final to 1100 GMT on Sunday in a bid to beat the rain, but prolonged downpours throughout the morning and afternoon meant there was little chance of play.

The covers briefly came off Centre Court at 1430 GMT before another shower forced the ground-staff to haul them back on and, with grey clouds hanging over the venue, it was decided to call off play at 1645 GMT.

Tournament director Chris Kermode said: "It's been a very frustrating day for everyone, particularly our ticket holders, but we will be giving everyone a full refund and an opportunity to buy tickets for the final weekend next year.

"We still have a fantastic final to look forward to on Monday and the weather forecast looks promising."

It will be only the third time the final has ever been played on a Monday and the first since 1987 when Germany's Boris Becker beat Jimmy Connors.

Murray will return to Queen's on Monday hoping to win the Wimbledon warm-up event for the second time in three years, while Tsonga is bidding to become the first French winner of the event.
