In Premier league football it doesn't get any bigger than this. Soccer history has witnessed one of the most entertaining football matches between these two terrific sides. Man United (Red Devils) and Arsenal (Gunners) are termed as teams that can score goals at will. These two teams have treated soccer lovers with some entertaining and stylish duels over the decade.
With the stunning start to the season for Arsenal, where the Gunners have scored amazing 10 goals in just 2 matches, we should be prepared to witness another classic.
United lost their second match against new boys Burnley, but an emphatic comeback against Wigan (Wigan Athletic) where they comfortably beat them 5-0 is enough to boost their confidence.
Arsenal has been superb this season so far but Man United is not an easy team to beat in their own backyard. Given that United have lost their attacking firepower like Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, but still they have class players in their team that can bog Arsenal down on the pitch. Only worry for United at this point should be the problem in defense. They are without their star defender Rio Ferdinand, whereas Jonny Evans is out of action due to an injury in his ankle.
Man United has to perform at their best if they have to beat Gunners who are in superb form with their free flowing football. Arsenals who haven't won any trophy since last 4 years are really hungry for success and many feel that this could be their season. However, these are early days and to achieve that elusive goal they have to be the best amongst the rest.
It has been said by many great players that every game between these two teams is special. These two teams definitely have no love lost for each other. In 2004 before the match even kicked off their was fight between Arsenal captain Patrick Viera and Man United skipper Roy Keane in the tunnel which resulted in number of players suspended after the match. Refrees have a field day issuing yellow and red cards while officiating matches between these two teams.
Manchester United and Arsenal rivalry is here to stay and doesn't show any sign of abetting in near future. Both teams respect each other but when they are on the field they are the biggest rivals in world football.
Lately rivalry between these two teams has not been as extreme as it was used to be because of the emergence of Chelsea and Liverpool. These two teams are offering Man United a level of competition that was an exclusive right of Arsenal till 2005.
But this season Arsenal are looking in an ominous form as their players have matured and are playing in a more cohesive manner. United, meanwhile, is a top team but will it be able to cope with the loss of Ronaldo is something only the time can tell.
Come August 29, Theatre of Dreams (Old Trafford), more than 75000 spectators will witness yet another classic between these two giants of English football.
