Salgaocar keep top tier hopes alive

Salgaocar hung on to a first-half goal to edge past Mumbai FC in their 24th round I-league encounter played at Nehru Stadium on Thursday.

The win saw Salgaocar move away from the drop zone with 27 points from 24 matches, while the reverse was the case for Mumbai who have 25 points from 24 matches after the loss, with two games to play.

Salgaocar scored the all-important goal in the 15th minute through Ekene Ekenwa.

Anthony Barbosa who overlapped constantly on the right sent a high cross inside the box for Ekenwa who guided the ball into the net with a header that beat the outstretched hands of Amit Singha Roy.

Churchill take on Mohun Bagan

Margao: Churchill Brothers will continue their desperate bid to retain the title when they meet Mohun Bagan on Friday.
If Churchill lose or draw against Mohun Bagan then Dempo will be crowned champions.
