Salgaocar's Karim Bencherifa was offered a one-year contract by the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) to become the coach of the India football team on Friday, a day after he guided Salgaocar to their first Federation Cup title after a gap of 14 years.
However, Salgaocar president Shivanand Salgaocar said that the club was not releasing Bencherifa as he has nearly two year left in his contract and the Goan side is aiming to do well in the continental tournaments, including the AFC Cup.
"There is no question of releasing Bencherifa. He has nearly two years left in his contract. We made him coach with long-term goals and my club does not make stop-gap arrangements."
FIFA bans Myanmar from 2018 WC qualifiers
Geneva: Football's governing body FIFA on Friday excluded Myanmar from the 2018 World Cup and ordered the Asian state to pay a fine over the violence wrought by their supporters who pelted the pitch with rocks, shoes and water bottles during a qualifier in July with Oman.
In addition to the exclusion for the World Cup in Russia, it would have to pay a fine of 25,000 francs ($27,758), and bear the costs of the disciplinary proceedings, said FIFA.
